I’m a big fan of Pinoy-made products!
(As you can see from my numerous posts about proudly Pinoy-made brands like Human Nature, School of Satchel, Messy Bessy and the Last Planner You’ll Ever Have!)
So when someone told me to check out Sipa (Street Hacky Sack), a Filipino-made game app for iOS and Android, I was more than happy to oblige.
(It’s Filipino-made AND geeky, what more can I ask for!)
The Sipa app pretty much works the same way as real-life Sipa game.
You control a toon named Butchukoy by tilting your gadget left or right, making sure that he keeps the “sipa” afloat by hitting it with his foot or elbow.
(It actually reminds me of the game Arkanoid, except you’re not hitting any bricks)
SCREENSHOTS OF SIPA
Meet Butchukoy! Sipa extraordinaire (Well, depends on how you play, haha.)
So cool that the levels are so localized.
Even cooler are the bits of trivia about the certain historic places in the Philippines.
See Butchokoy hit the sipa with his foot! The app teaches the golden lesson of cleanliness and the environment by having Butchukoy pick up litters on the ground for additional points.
The app also has an extra comic that addresses the issue of bullying, so that adds to its awesome points.
On top of all the reasons to download and play Sipa is a very noble act – to help provide education to deserving Filipino youth. Part of the proceeds of Sipa will go to Mighty Minds, Inc., a non-profit organization and self-reliant entity composed of civic-minded individuals coming from various backgrounds, all united in providing educational assistance to scholars.
(Not only do we help in promoting Filipino culture, we get to help, too!)
Mommies and Daddies, this is a great app to download for your little boys (and maybe girls) out there. It’s going to be a great bonding moment explaining that these were the games children used to play when we didn’t have any iPhones, iPads or DS Lites yet.
Sipa is available for iOS ($0.99) and Android (Php43.40). To know more about Sipa and it’s creators, visit their Official Facebook Page and follow them on Twitter!
Whee! I like this š Thanks for sharing this š
Never know this game existed. I immediately searched this on the Android market but sadly it’s not there.
Found it on Appbrain, cost 0.99$ though.
