La Union Getaway Part I: Our Stay In Thunderbird Resorts, Poro Point

Last weekend, we went on a 6 hour road trip to La Union to attend the wedding of Artie’s cousin.

It’s the first road trip I’ve been in since my little life-changing event 2 years ago. I was excited and at the same time anxious about it.

I was anxious because I was afraid I might get a panic attack while on the road. At the same time, I wanted to go through it because I knew that if I ‘survived’ this road trip (plus being in a unknown environment) without any hitches, I’m probably on the road to ’emotional’ recovery and I can start getting my feet back on the ground more firmly.

(I got antsy while we were on SCTEX. The road that stretched into oblivion with barely any other cars around kind of freaked me out a bit. But once we got into the towns, I felt a little better.)

And hurrah! The trip went pretty well, and I actually enjoyed myself. I even managed to slightly drink and party like I used to years ago! That is a MAJOR accomplishment, haha.

(Hello to more trips ahead! I’m ready! *arms in the air*)

Anyway, enough blabbing because I know you’re here to read about The Thunderbird Resorts.

We arrived in La Union at around past 7 in the evening. We were hoping to get to the resort before sunset because we wanted to be greeted by this view.

Took this photo the day we left instead. Looks familiar? This is where they shot some of the scenes of ‘No Other Woman’ πŸ˜‰

Unfortunately, we got there pretty late so we didn’t get to see this view on our first day. Artie was pretty tired from driving so we had our car valet parked and went straight to the lobby to check-in.

After checking-in, we went to our room to drop off our luggage and to freshen up.

We were soooo deliriously happy when we saw our room. After 6 hours of being on the road, being greeted by this room was enough to make us cry.

Thunderbird Resorts RoomKing-sized bed! The bed was too soft for my taste, though. I had a slight back ache when I woke up the next day. Very, very cold airconditioning, however.

Thunderbird Resorts Room ShowerShower! No problem with the hot water and the pressure was strong, too πŸ™‚

Thunderbird Resorts Room BathroomDo you take home the mini shampoos and stuff? I don’t. They usually just take up space and accumulate dust in our bathroom.

Once we’ve freshened up, we went to meet with Artie’s family for dinner.

We ate at the hotel restaurant, Olives. The Olives Restaurant is a fine dining restaurant so that only goes to say that the prices are pretty ‘fine’, too.

You can choose to eat from the buffet, which costs P770, or choose from their ala carte menu.

After dinner, we were supposed to go out to Big Kahuna Bar for drinks. But when we found out that it was 20 minutes away from Thunderbird Resorts via car, we decided to just have our night cap at Thunderbird’s lobby lounge and bar, Patio Santorini.

Choose your poison!

This is one way to girl-ify a hard drink, hehe.

  • The staff were very courteous and accommodating.
  • Our room cost P6,700 per night on weekends, P6,300 on weekdays.
  • We didn’t have a mini ref in the room. Or maybe we didn’t find it, haha.
  • I wish we had a tub or jacuzzi in the bathroom. Really, with how big the bathroom was (and for the amount that we paid), I’m sure they could have fitted in a tub there.
  • They didn’t have an elevator to get to the other floors of the hotel. I found this a bit of a hassle since our room was on the 2nd floor. I had to drag my trolley luggage up some flights of stairs until a staff saw and assisted me.
  • FREE WiFi that’s FAST and STABLE! +1,000,000 points! A very awesome treat for internet junkies like me and for workaholics having their pseudo-vacation.

Happy geek is happy! πŸ™‚

That’s it for our La Union Getaway Part I! Tune in for Part II where I’ll be blogging about the wedding and more of Thunderbird Resorts amenities! πŸ™‚
