Tech Review: Altec Lansing Mini H2O

Hey geeks, let me start the day off with a really quick review of the Altec Lansing Mini H20.

Comes in a really nice packaging.

The specs, pretty much. IP67 certified means it is 100% protected against solid objects like dust and sand, and has been tested to work for at least 30 minutes while under 15cm to 1m of water.

The Mini H2O comes with the following.

Hi, there! ❤

On the bottom are the ports for charging and power.

On top are the power and volume buttons.

Altec Lansing branding on the back.

Size comparison. Seriously, how tiny is that?! It’s practically the size of a credit card.

The Good

  • Good sound quality. Good bass (though I was expecting more tugsh tugsh) and good on the highs. Surprisingly balanced and clear mid-range. Vocals are very clear.
  • The chattiest bluetooth speaker ever! It speaks! It announces when it’s connected to a device, or when it’s done pairing. It also says when it’s charging or when you turn it on. I really like this feature because you don’t have to wonder whether it’s pairing correctly or not.
  • Good price point. For only P1,995, that’s super affordable in my book, considering Altec Lansing is a really good brand when it comes to audio speakers.
  • Very lightweight, practically weighs nothing  at 0.25lbs.
  • Very portable. I mean, really, a size of credit card. Can’t complain about that.
  • Comes in a variety of colors – black, white, red, orange and blue.
  • Definitely shock-proof. My cat knocked it off my 4-foot table and it still works.
  • Definitely water-proof and will float in water.

The Not-So Good

  • The volume and power controls are a bit difficult to operate. It’s hard to adjust the volume using the physical buttons so it’s better to just control the volume via your music player.
  • A slight distortion on the sound quality when it’s on very high or max volume.

The Bottomline

If you love hanging by the beach or the pool side and you want to enjoy music of good sound quality, and are looking for a portable and affordable bluetooth speaker, then is this is a definite recommend on my list.

The Altec Lansing H20 Mini is available in selected branches of SM Appliance Centers, Astro Vision, Astro Plus, Anson’s and other gadget retailers nationwide.
